As we age, we experience typical forms of degeneration including osteoporosis, arthritis, degenerative low-back pain, and obesity. Special considerations for those and other chronic conditions associated with aging will be taken into consideration while designing programs that are safe and attainable.  Clients should have approval from their licensed physician before beginning a new exercise program.  A Health History Questionnaire and the PAR-Q+ assessment will be taken to help decipher physical readiness.  Static stretching along with, simple forms of active or dynamic stretching are used to help get the client to start moving their joints during the warm-up period.  Low- to moderate-intensity cardiorespiratory training will be incorporated and tailored to the client’s goals and capabilities. Exercise stimulates bone development and maintains and improves bone mass, specifically with resistance training and weight bearing exercise. Bone strength will help with reducing the risk of falls.

I will be ensuring that exercises are performed with precise technique and control to minimize risk of injury. There are so many benefits to exercise during this phase of life including, balance, muscle strengthening, maintaining healthy bones and joints, cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, and over all wellness, and quality of life.
